The Ligurian Sea, Genoa

The Ligurian Sea is a part of the Mediterranean Sea positioned between the northwestern coast of Italy, the southeastern coast of France, and to the north of the islands of Corsica and Elba.

The western boundaries of the sea are an estimate at best, as mapping accuracy depends on where the sea actually ends, and there are many opinions for same.

The distance from Pisa to Nice is 251 km (156 mi), and from Genoa to Elba is 207 km (129 mi). The max depth is estimated at more than 2,850 m (9,300 ft.).

Called “Mar Ligure” in Italian and “Mer Ligurienne” in French, Genoa and Livorno are its chief ports and the sea is well served by regional ferries.

Camogli, Italy - after the storm

We wandered out, via an 3.80euro return train fare, to Camogli - about half an hour from the city.

Everything here is just so very beautiful, although Boccadasse remains my favourite section of coastline here, this was unbearably stunning too.

Off to take photographs on my last full day in Genova.

Oh and yes, those were people swimming, it was that warm in November.

The wind was pummeling everyone there, watching the storm but none of us wanted to leave.

It was stunning.

Later,  I heard that this storm was the worst in 8 years, and I saw evidence of it where ever I went ... from broken boats through to the jetsam and flotsam littering the beaches and rocky shores of the coast.

It was truly stunning to be there though ...

I loved this series of images taken during a ferocious storm in Genoa ...

I was out at Boccadasse 4 or 5 times and each time the mood and the sea offered me something different.

So if you leave the beach at Boccadasse and follow the narrow path up the hill, you come to this lookout that gifts you this view.

Then. depending on the mood of Nature that day, anything is possible.

The reality was even better than the photographs that lured me here.  Here's the view from the top of a hill I discovered in Boccadasse, near Genoa city.

So that was my Sunday.
